SRUC 2026 – Day 1 | When highly specialised education moves medicine forward

We are at K2 Alpin in Poiana Brașov today for the 5th Romanian Shoulder and Elbow Meeting – SRUC / RESS, an event that reflects the evolution of Romanian orthopaedics towards greater specialisation, practical education and international collaboration.

Behind this initiative stands the Romanian Shoulder and Elbow Society (SRUC / RESS) and a team whose sustained commitment to developing shoulder and elbow surgery in Romania deserves recognition. Dr. Negru Marius, EMBA, FEBOT, FRCS , President of RESS, and Dr. Mihai Râșcu , co-founder of RESS, play important roles alongside the entire organising team. The meeting is held under the patronage of SECEC – European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and the Elbow.

From the first day, the strong attendance and engagement of orthopaedic surgeons reveal something equally important: a genuine appetite for high-level scientific knowledge, practical surgical applications and direct exchange of experience.

Today’s programme moves from shoulder and elbow anatomy and biomechanics to arthroscopy, shoulder instability, Bankart repair, remplissage and Latarjet procedures, as well as long head of biceps pathology. A highlight is the Relive Cadaver Surgery session on arthroscopic Latarjet, led by Dr. @Marius Negru and Dr. Andrei Popescu.

The international dimension is one of the strengths of this year’s meeting. Day 1 brings together experts including Carlos Cobiella, Henry Colaco, Jagwant Singh, Lee van Rensburg, Alexander Van Tongel, Roland Camenzind, Philippe Schiepers, Radu Amon and Merter Ozenci, alongside leading Romanian specialists. Overall, the meeting features a faculty of 20 surgeons from six countries.

Romanian speakers today include Prof. Dr. Ștefan Cristea, Dr. Gabriel Darca, Dr. Mihai Tudor Gavrilă, Dr. Andrei Popescu and Dr. Mihai Râșcu, in a programme built not only around lectures, but also around debates, video sessions, case discussions and surgical demonstrations.

SRUC 2026 is more than a congress. It represents an important step for Romanian medicine and, particularly, for the development of highly specialised medical education. This is how modern medicine progresses: focused professional communities, surgeons sharing experience, access to international expertise and a permanent connection between scientific evidence and everyday surgical practice.

Congratulations to SRUC / RESS, Dr. Marius Negru, Dr. Mihai Râșcu and the entire team for building a professional community that brings Romanian shoulder and elbow surgery increasingly closer to major international centres.
